Josh Stanton is a trial-hardened litigator with more than a decade of experience representing individuals and corporations in their most challenging legal matters. In 2025, he was honored as one of the Lawdragon 500 X – The Next Generation, a distinction recognizing the best emerging legal talent in the country.
Trusted by high-profile entertainers, athletes, and corporate leaders, Josh is known for a relentless approach that combines elite "Big Law" sophistication with the aggressive instincts of a career public defender. Before founding Stanton Law DC, he was a partner at a highly-regarded litigation boutique in New York City.
Over his career, Josh has an extensive record of success in the courtroom including as the co-director of the Criminal Practice Clinic at Vanderbilt Law School, an associate at a large international law firm, and as an Assistant Public Defender in Memphis. He has secured remarkable victories at every stage, including jury trial acquittals, post-indictment dismissals, and multi-million dollar civil settlements.
Beyond the courtroom, Josh is a recognized voice on the democratic and legal questions of our time. He has authored high-profile model prosecution memoranda regarding the actions of President Donald Trump and has appeared as a legal analyst on MSNBC and other national and international media outlets.
Josh graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif from NYU School of Law. Following law school, he served as a federal judicial clerk for the Honorable Jon P. McCalla in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Tennessee. Previously, Josh was a public school math and science teacher outside New Orleans, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
